Why We’re Excited to Return to Jurassic Lake in 2026

After years away, Angling Adventures is finally heading back to Jurassic Lake, Patagonia — and we couldn’t be more pumped. From 10–17 January 2026 we’re taking a small crew down for what will be our first hosted trip back since COVID. With just two spots left, here’s why this trip has us grinning already:

1. Rainbow Trout Beyond Belief

Jurassic Lake (Lago Strobel) is legendary for producing the biggest wild rainbow trout in the world. We’re not talking “lucky once in a lifetime” big — we’re talking 20-plus pounders as a regular occurrence. The mouth of the Barrancoso River and nearby bays are within walking distance of the lodge and are home to trout so powerful they’ll test every knot, leader, and ounce of your patience.

2. The Fishing Program is Next Level

Days are spent rotating through a variety of beats: the river mouth, Bay of Pigs, the pool, and stretches of the Barrancoso River. Every option offers different water and challenges, from sight-casting at cruising giants in the shallows to stripping streamers into the wind. The guides aren’t just there to point — they’ll help with fly choice, technique tweaks, and even snap those all-important photos.

3. A Journey Both Ways

We’ll drive in to the lodge, taking the time to soak in the raw Patagonian steppe, volcanic plateaus, and the distant peaks of Fitz Roy. Then we’ll fly out, giving us the rare chance to appreciate the same vast landscapes from the sky. It’s the best of both worlds — adventure on the ground, perspective from the air.

4. The Lodge Experience

Jurassic Lake Lodge has come a long way from its tent-camp beginnings. These days it’s a proper wilderness retreat with single or double rooms, hot showers, hearty meals, and a bar stocked with Argentine wines and whisky. Evenings mean sitting by the fire, swapping fish stories, and tucking into an asado (Argentine barbecue) while gazing out at the lake.

5. Weather that Keeps You Honest

Patagonian weather is famously unpredictable. One minute it’s sunny and warm, the next you’re pulling on a jacket as the wind howls through. But here’s the thing: that wind stirs up the lake and gets those big trout feeding close to shore. At the lodge, they say “make friends with the wind” — advice every Jurassic angler learns to embrace.

6. More than Just Fishing

This isn’t only about big trout. It’s about being in one of the wildest, rawest corners of the planet. From the tango buzz of Buenos Aires to a side trip to the Perito Moreno Glacier out of El Calafate, Argentina adds culture and adventure to the fishing. Add in legendary food — empanadas, malbec, and lamb roasted over coals — and you’ve got a full-tilt experience.

7. Angling Adventures’ Return

Finally, this trip is personal. It’s our first hosted adventure back since the COVID pandemic, and we’re keeping it small so everyone gets the attention they deserve. That means less crowd, more laughs, and memories that’ll stick with you forever.
