If there’s one place that keeps rewriting the rulebook on barramundi fishing, it’s Bensbach Wilderness Lodge in Papua New Guinea.
After another incredible year on the river, we’re proud to say the 2025 season ran smoother than any in the lodge’s history — and the numbers, the stories, and the smiles say it all.
2025 Season Highlights
Thanks to lodge manager Dino Blackler — former NT mothership skipper and long-time fishing guide — the lodge is running like clockwork.
His focus on renovations, maintenance, and lodge systems has made Bensbach ship-shape and ready for another huge year.
Much like the Northern Territory’s runoff this year, unexpected late rain made the middle of the season a little tougher than normal.
But, as always, the big barra showed up in force — especially during the early and late-season trips.
Across nine trips, anglers landed more metre-plus fish than any other lodge on Earth.
Simply put, Bensbach isn’t just better — it’s exponentially bigger.
The new promotion video from Kane Chenoweth and Henry Smith shows just a taste of what Bensbach can deliver — think massive tidal barra on both lure and fly, set against one of the wildest backdrops on the planet.
Looking Ahead to 2026
The momentum is rolling straight into next year. With the lodge fine-tuned, the guides dialled in, and the river primed, 2026 is shaping up to be another unforgettable season.
Here’s the current availability update:
There’s also the potential for a 10th trip, depending on rainfall and river levels. If you’d like to join the waitlist, now’s the time to put your hand up.
Why Those End-of-Season Trips Matter
Judging by 2025 results, the late-season trips are shaping up to be gold. Not only have they produced incredible fishing, but the lower river levels also open up vast grassy floodplains — perfect for bank walking and fly fishing for monster Bensbach barra.
If you’re keen on sight casting, exploring, and getting your boots dirty, those last few trips could be your best shot.
