Bamurru Plains

Norther Territory

The "Run Off" in the Top End of the Northern Territory (when the floodwaters of the wet season begin to subside) is when the big barra are at their most aggressive feeding period. The chances of hooking that mighty metre plus barramundi during this period is at its peak!

"Bamurru Plains" luxury safari camp provides a spectacular venue on the edge of this great fishery with first class food and wines. The offshore reefs which hold some very big Jewfish, are also extremely close.

By air it is only 20 minutes by light aircraft from Darwin or Kakadu National Park, by car it is a 3 hour drive from Darwin and 2 1/2 hours from Kakadu. Guests wishing to drive may do so, as the property is a working cattle station guests need to leave their vehicles at the entrance of the property from where you will be picked up by a staff member for the 20 minute drive back to camp.

"Wild Bush Luxury" is a term that was coined to encapsulate the style of experience at Bamurru. The focus of your stay at Bamurru, other than fishing, is in the environment around you, the wildlife for whom it is home.

Each safari suite is designed to blend with the surrounding bush and as such exposes guests to the sights and sounds of the bush that is around them. As dawn breaks the sounds of numerous birds or the splashing of buffalo through the nearby floodplains is an experience in itself.

The concept of the camp is simple and focused on key creature comforts, a supremely comfortable bed, 100% cotton linen, large soft bath towels, a high pressure shower and providing lots of space. Meals and staff service is to die for! With just nine safari suites built amongst the savannah bush fringing the floodplains, the camp is exclusive and guests have the whole area to themselves.

Fishing at Bamurru Plains is unique as it is on the lower reaches of the Sampan Creek with private access. The feeder creeks of the Sampan provide excellent fishing during the wet season months and large barramundi can be a regular catch.

A highlight for any fisherman at Bamurru is fishing on the swim creek floodplain by airboat. The camp's airboats are fitted with casting decks to maximise the experience of fishing the floodplain in spots that are accessible to camp guests only.
