January - September

Even though you are welcome to bring your own fishing tackle, Lance manufactures his own lures. They are excellent Barra lures and are fast become in demand Australia wide.
Owner of Northern Australia Sports Fishing operation, Lance Butler is widely regarded as one of Australia's best Barramundi guides. Born in North Queensland as well as guided in the Northern Territory at most of the leading lodges since the early 80's, along with his ancestry natural hunting knowledge, what more could you want for when choosing a guide for Barramundi fishing.....it has been said that he can "smell Barra at a 100 metres"!
Lance has chosen the Karumba area above numerous locations to fish for Barramundi for his clients. Some very large Threadfin Salmon are also not a bad by catch in this area! Within approximately 1 hours travelling from launching in Karumba, in his very comfortable custom built Sportfishing craft, you will have a number of rivers and creeks to cast or troll, for Australia's most popular sportfish. By the way, it is 2 minutes from your accommodation to the boat ramp!
Not many places in Australia can you now be confident to hook into a metre plus Barra...not so in this area. In fact, Lance's metre plus numbers are exceeding many other locations total numbers with all the guides combined! As stated earlier, large Threadfin Salmon are also quite common in this area. There are not many better fighting species in our coastal rivers than the mighty "Threadie".
Services & Facilities
The days of rough bush camps and vessels have long gone! Travelling and fishing out of Lance's boat makes Barra fishing even more a pleasure. Combined with Lance's operation, we have selected accommodation during the trip at the "absolute beachfront holiday accommodation" motel at Karumba Point, with the End of the Road Motel. End of the Road Motel offers guests beach front fully self contained accommodation. Guests facilities include swimming pool and bbq area. Next door, and I mean "next door", is the Sunset Tavern. You have to walk about 3 metres to get a beer or evening meal. Enjoy all this watching beautiful sunsets over the water!
Karumba Point is 72 km north of Normanton in the Gulf of Carpentaria. It is accessible by sealed road and is well known for fishing all year around. There are regular flights from Cairns to Normanton where all our guests will be meet by Lance and transferred to Karumba Point. If you would prefer to drive, the journey is about 770 kms and takes about 8 or 9 hours. This is not a boring drive! You will witness amazing bird and occasional wildlife as well as many herds of cattle while passing on the outskirts of outback cattle stations.
