Take your own fly tackle only aboard "Mantaray"
The West Coast of Cape York is a remote part of Northern Australia. Mid way along this spectacular coastline lies the thriving township of Weipa. Although primarily a mining town, Weipa is also the home port of Mantaray Charters. Based here because of the fabulous light tackle Sportfishing Cape York's West Coast experiences, these vessels offer a unique trip in the tropical waters of Northern Australia. Being mobile mother-ship operations, Eclipse & Mantaray can travel the distances required to put anglers right amongst the best possible fishing.
On the West Coast of Cape York stretches miles of remote, unspoilt, white sandy beaches with sand bars and shallow margins of “flats”. These regions are exceptional for anglers wanting to test their skill in sight casting their target fish, whether it be on “fly” or “lure”. There are too many species to mention to be caught on these flats and offshore reefs. Permit, Golden Trevally, Queenfish, Herring, Threadfin Salmon and Barramundi are just a few. The record number of species caught on charter at this stage is 55 species in seven days!! All on fly!
Along this pristine coast also meanders some beautiful rivers estuaries. The upper reaches of these can be fished by anglers using tenders from the mother-ship to get to those fish rich waters where tropical sportfish favourites such as Mangrove Jack, Barramundi, Saratoga and Fingermark Bream can all be caught.
With such a mobile operation being able to reach these absolutely remote fishing wilderness areas in such comfort, Eclipse & Mantaray charters are a very popular fishing holiday option.
