October - April

Even though the the location is called Lake Brunner Lodge, nearly all the fly fishing is done in streams. There is so many rivers/streams in the general area that you would have to stay for about a year before you would fish the same area twice.
Lake Brunner Lodge has an international reputation for its tranquillity, traditional New Zealand hospitality, cuisine and accommodation. It has a fantastic range of Summer and Winter activities and outdoor pursuits, and the world's finest clear water fishing for large Brown Trout.
The lodge is in a secluded world of mountains, lakes, prehistoric forest and native birds in the foothills of the Southern Alps.
There is access to national parks and world heritage areas, and to some of the world's finest fishing for large Brown Trout at New Zealand's longest established fishing destinations.
Our world of the historic West Coast is directly accessed from Christchurch by train, car and plane, wonderful journeys over Arthur’s pass through the heart of the Alps, or from Queenstown up the mystical West Coast.
For the “serious” angler, we have heard it described as “the ultimate contrast” between angler and trout. First you find these large browns in our super clear water, then you hunt them, often bringing a whole new set of skills. It requires top guiding, and for the first time visitors in particular, guiding is almost an essential. Like all fishing, sometimes easy, sometimes the opposite!! But always fascinating and rewarding.
For the casual fisherman there is nothing quite like running a line behind a boat in one of our many lakes, or spinning in the larger rivers. Always in pristine unspoilt environment. Statistics are incompatible with the reasons we go fishing, it is also for the lovely places we go to and the fascination of the sport. One statistic we do keep - 98% catch and release each summer, thanks to all our anglers who prefer photographs.
Lodge: Our Lodge is probably New Zealand’s longest known wilderness destination. Its traditions are most apparent in the ambience of the polished native timber and huge log fireplaces, and our restoration of the guest suites is true to the original, while adding all modern facilities and comforts. In true lodge tradition, all guests when dining experience personal New Zealand hospitality, excellent cuisine and wines. The setting is tranquil, relaxing and secluded, with the lake at the door and unspoilt majestic native forest covered mountains as our backdrop.
Our guests have access to an enormously varied range of outdoor activities, furthermost from the beaten tourist track, intriguing local crafts and local history - or the opportunity to simply relax. And you have the ultimate angling experience in the multitude of pristine spring creeks, rivers, streams and lakes around us, where brown trout abound.
