Fishing Tips

Virtually untouched by Fly fisherman, but those that have fished the area have caught Permit and Golden Trevally. There are also Bonefish that have yet been tested.

Jarbu Lodge

A small privately run lodge that caters for a maximum of nine guests at a time. Owner/Head Guide Rob Hunt will fish you 16 hours if you want! An airstrip serviced by a commercial airline with five flights a week from Darwin. A backyard with a swamp of hundreds of acres and wild Timor ponies running free. Private land with sole rights for fishing that stretches for miles and miles.

As well as a large coastal area on Croker Island, we have also obtained fishing rights to a number of bays on the mainland. The first of these bays is only 20 minutes away with the others an extra half-hour. Because these areas have been seldom visited before, we are still discovering new hot spots on a regular basis. The fishing is what you would expect at such a remote and newly fished location. Owner/Guide run operations always create enthusiasm and professionalism, and this operation is no exception to the rule.

Species are numerous. In one day alone our group managed to capture 22 of these lure crunching species. We can target the species that suites the clients... G.T's that can be unstoppable, Queenfish in cricket score numbers, Spanish Mackerel that may spool you and Mangrove Jacks to test the limits of your line. Whatever the species that turns you on. Barramundi of all sizes caught along beaches and rocky outcrops are not to be missed.

Only limited numbers will be able to visit Croker Island/Jarbu Lodge. This is a good problem when you want to maintain and protect an area of such vast fish supplies and an unspoilt environment.
Services & Facilities

Lodge: Built approximately 100 metres from the beach and with scenic billabongs 10 metres from the back door, this lodge has a unique setting. Accommodation is in fan cooled or air conditioned echo-tourism bungalows built on a platform which will allow ample ventilation and sea breezes through the many trees and plants that surround the lodge.

The dining and relaxing area is also on a raised platform with insect proof mesh walls which provide both relief from the heat and astonishing views. There are also balconies at the front and back of the dining room.

A recently contructed swimming pool is very popular after a day on the water and in the hot sun.

Boat:
Custom built 4.7 metre and 6 metre Top Enders to suit the area. Full safety gear, spares and first aid kits. Quiet, efficient Yamaha 50 hp four stroke motors.

Transport:
Croker Island airstrip is 5 minutes from Jarbu Lodge. Murin Airways service Croker five times a week with flights direct from Darwin or via Goulburn Island. Flight time is one or two hours depending whether Goulburn is on the flight routing. If numbers justify, private air charters can be arranged.
